Arrival

I arrived at Florence’s tiny airport and soon after was driven to my apartment. It is different to the places I’m used to living. There is no air conditioning so we have to keep the windows open. I did try some gelato which I enjoyed and some Napoli pizza which I did not. I’ve walked around the city quite a bit and feel like I’m starting to learn to navigate the streets. At our program welcome banquet, we tried all sorts of appetizers such as bruschetta, caprese salad, prosciutto e melon, and zucchini with balsamic vinegar. Spaghetti with red pepper, penne with beef, and gnocchi with blue cheese was also served with tiramisu as the dessert. I find it satisfying to speak to the locals in Italian and be able to feel immersed.
