10 Santa Croce

My project for the Florentine monuments was the Santa Croce, which is the largest Franciscan church in the world and became a mausoleum of famous Italians. When we toured it, I got to see the tombs of Galileo, Michelangelo, Machiavelli, and Rossini. It also has artwork from Donatello, Giotto, and Giorgio Vasari. On the floor and walls, there are many cenotaphs and tombs which are well decorated to exhibit wealth and importance. There are some remnants of Franciscan artwork around the church. The Pazzi family has a private chapel and there is another section with famous depictions of the Last Supper. It was satisfying to see the monument that I had done a presentation on and I appreciated the explanation from our tour guide about the history of the mausoleum and the tombs.
