San Miniato al monte is a basilica in Florence that overlooks the city and has a monastery and large cemetery. We went inside the church which reminded me of the Santa Croce and was very pristine for being over 1000 years old. The crypt is supposed to contain the bones of Saint Miniato and there was little light. We went around the back into the cemetery and saw hundreds of graves and mausoleums. The author of Pinocchio, Carlo Lorenzini (Collodi) was buried in one of the mausoleums which we were able to see. The monks also have a small shop where they sell handmade tea and honey. I was impressed by the age of this building and how many people were buried in the cemetery.
